2012 Lyra Society Mother's Day Celebration with Jennifer Koh, concert violinist!
Sunday, May 13, 3 PM at the Curtis Institute of Music
The Lyra Society is delighted to announce the 2012 Gala Benefit Concert, a Mother's Day Celebration. Jennifer Koh, internationally acclaimed violinist and Curtis graduate, will present a dazzling display of her virtuosity. Regarded as an intense, commanding artist, "The Strad" recently praised her as a "risk-taking, high-octane player of the kind who grabs the listener by the ears and refuses to let go."
In addition, we are thrilled to have Pat Ciarrocchi, award winning CBS 3 Anchorwoman, as our "Voice of the Harp" for the afternoon's program. Since 1991, Ms. Ciarrocchi has reported on and covered live the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, telling stories of women and their families coping with breast cancer. She will present the 2012 Marilyn Costello Award to this year's recipient, composer Daniel Temkin. Mr. Temkin has already seen one of his compositions premiered in Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall. His new solo work for harp will be given its World Premiere by Ji-Hyun Wu, second-year harpist from Seoul. Both students are from the Curtis Institute of Music.
There is no doubt that our 2011 Benefactors for the Lyra Society generated the large response and turnout for Maestro Charles Dutoit and 30 harp-piece orchestra last year. We raised over $13,000! Please consider committing as a $500 Benefactor for the May 13 event. As a benefactor you will be given eight reserved concert seats and featured mention in the invitation and program.
In lieu of Mother's Day, we will honor all of our "Moms" with a special gift from The Lyra Society. So please bring her to this lovely afternoon of music that will benefit our harp programs!
