LOCATION

Saratoga Springs offers superb shopping, great restaurants of all levels, fabulous bistros and bars and much more!

The Saratoga Harp Colony takes place in the Victorian town of Saratoga Springs, NY, where students reside on the lovely campus of Skidmore College. Saratoga Springs is perennially short-listed as one of the most interesting and vibrant small towns in the U.S. With a fascinating history, delightfully walkable downtown (one mile from campus), charming coffee shops and bistros, national and local retailers, scintillating night spots, a legendary folk club (Caffe Lena, where Don McLean wrote "American Pie"), four-star restaurants to neighborhood diners, and arguably the world's most beautiful and historic thoroughbred race track, Saratoga Springs has it all. Located in upper-state New York, Saratoga Springs is approximately one hour north of Albany and three hours from New York City. Amtrak's Adirondack travels daily from NYC through the lush wine country of the Hudson Valley into Saratoga Springs. Convenient connecting trains at Penn Station, NY extend your reach to Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington, D.C. Saratoga Springs is a town with an international reputation in arts and entertainment, as well as the breeding, training and racing of America's finest horses. The slogan "Health, History, and Horses" now includes the Harp as a familiar icon.

SHC students, along with the faculty, reside in the brand new Northwoods graduate housing on Skidmore College campus. Each student will receive a private room. All students under the age of 18 will be directly supervised by a house resident available 24 hours. Private practice takes place within the students' private rooms as well as several areas designated as practice rooms. Harp ensemble, private lessons and masterclasses will be led in one of the adjacent residences. A few steps away is the campus dining hall where meals are provided cafeteria-style. All locations are within walking distance.

The campus is beautifully appointed, with many recreational outlets. For indoor activities, the Sports Recreation Center includes a six-lane pool with separate diving well, squash and racquetball courts, an aerobics fitness area and weight room. As for outdoor activities, there are lighted tennis courts and horseback riding. Although practicing the harp is the focal point, there will be some free time to explore the Adirondacks, spectacular Lake George and the Hudson River.
